- oh you fool, renounce your desire to accumulate wealth. Develop a desire for righteousness in your mind.
ಯಲ್ಲಭಸೇ ನಿಜಕರ್ಮೋಪಾತ್ತಂ ವಿತ್ತಂ ತೇನ ವಿನೋದಯ ಚಿತ್ತಮ್ ॥ 2 ॥
- whatever wealth you acquire through your true work, through that satisfy your mind.

ನಾರೀಸ್ತನಭರ-ನಾಭೀದೇಶಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಮಾ ಗಾ ಮೋಹಾವೇಶಮ್ । ಏತನ್ಮಾಂಸವಸಾದಿವಿಕಾರಂ ಮನಸಿ ವಿಚಿಂತಯ ವಾರಂ ವಾರಮ್ ॥ 3 ॥
- stanabhara - swelled breasts; nAbhi-dEsham - region of the navel; mAmsa - flesh; vasa - muscles;
Do not be bewildered by the swollen breasts of a woman, do not be distracted by the navel region. Realize that these are just various deformations of the flesh, muscles and etc. Remind yourself of this again and again.
ನಲಿನೀದಲ-ಗತಜಲಮತಿತರಲಂ ತದ್ವಜ್ಜೀವಿತಮತಿಶಯ-ಚಪಲಮ್ ।------------
ಯಾವದ್ವಿತ್ತೋಪಾರ್ಜನಶಕ್ತಃ
yAvat - as long as; vittah - wealth; upArjana - earning; shaktaH - capable of;
ತಾವನ್ನಿಜಪರಿವಾರೋ ರಕ್ತಃ ।
- tAvat - until then; nija-parivAro - your family; raktah - loved (liked, attached, pleasant towards);
ಪಶ್ಚಾಜ್ಜೀವತಿ ಜರ್ಜರದೇಹೇ
- paschAt - thereafter; jeevati - exists; jarjara - old age; dEhE - in the body
ವಾರ್ತಾಂ ಕೋಽಪಿ ನ ಪೃಚ್ಛತಿ ಗೇಹೇ ॥ 5 ॥
- vArtAm - your existence; your welfare; kOpi-na - no one; pRcchati - inquires; gEhE - family, house, dwelling.

ಯಾವತ್ಪವನೋ ನಿವಸತಿ ದೇಹೇ
- yAvat - as long as; pavanaH - life breath; nivasati - resides; dEhE - in the body of water'
ತಾವತ್ಪೃಚ್ಛತಿ ಕುಶಲಂ ಗೇಹೇ ।
- tAvat - until then; pRcchati - inquires; kushalm - welfare; gEhE - home
ಗತವತಿ ವಾಯೌ ದೇಹಾಪಾಯೇ
- gatavati vAyu - once the life breath leaves; dEhA pAye - body of water
ಭಾರ್ಯಾ ಬಿಭ್ಯತಿ ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ಕಾಯೇ ॥ 6 ॥
- bhAryA - even the wife; bibhyati - is afraid; tasmin kAye - that body!

ಬಾಲಸ್ತಾವತ್ಕ್ರೀಡಾಸಕ್ತಃ
- bAlastAvat - as long as one is in the child state; kreeDAsaktah - interested in play
ತರುಣಸ್ತಾವತ್ತರುಣೀಸಕ್ತಃ ।
- taruNastAvat - as long as one is in the youthful state; taruNI saktaH - interested in the youth of other gender
ವೃದ್ಧಸ್ತಾವಚ್ಚಿಂತಾಸಕ್ತಃ
- vRddhastAvat - as long as one is in the senile state; cintAsakatah - one is preoccupied by worries
ಪರಮೇ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಿ ಕೋಽಪಿ ನ ಸಕ್ತಃ ॥ 7 ॥
- paramE brahmaNi - in the supreme Lord; kOpi na saktah - no one is interested.

ಕಾ ತೇ ಕಾಂತಾ ಕಸ್ತೇ ಪುತ್ರಃ
-- kA tE kAMtA - who is your wife? kaH te putraH - who is your son?
ಸಂಸಾರೋಽಯಮತೀವ ವಿಚಿತ್ರಃ ।
- samsAraH ayam - this world; atIva vicitraH - is very strange, preculiar;
ಕಸ್ಯ ತ್ವಂ ಕಃ ಕುತ ಆಯಾತಃ
-- kasya tvam - who's are you? who do you belong to? kaH - who are you? aayaata - where have you come from? where are you heading to? where have you spread yourself?
ತತ್ತ್ವಂ ಚಿಂತಯ ತದಿಹ ಭ್ರಾತಃ ॥ 8 ॥
-- tatvam cintaya tat iha - contemplate on the truth, reality, concept here (in this world); bhrAtaH - Oh brother!

ಸತ್ಸಂಗತ್ವೇ ನಿಸ್ಸಂಗತ್ವಂ
-- satsanghatve nissangatvam - through the association of the wise/virtuous ones is the state of detachment (freedom from worldly attachment)
ನಿಸ್ಸಂಗತ್ವೇ ನಿರ್ಮೋಹತ್ವಮ್ ।
-- nissangatve nirmohatvam - through freedom from worldly attachment is one free from illusion
ನಿರ್ಮೋಹತ್ವೇ ನಿಶ್ಚಲತತ್ತ್ವಂ
-- nirmohatve nischalatatvam - through freedom from illusion is the steadiness / firmness of mind
ನಿಶ್ಚಲತತ್ತ್ವೇ ಜೀವನ್ಮುಕ್ತಿಃ ॥ 9 ॥
-- nischalatatve jivanmuktiH - through steadiness of mind is liberation possible, even in this life.

ವಯಸಿ ಗತೇ ಕಃ ಕಾಮವಿಕಾರಃ
-- vayasti gatE - after an age has passed; kaH kAmavikAraH - where is that passion of lust?
ಶುಷ್ಕೇ ನೀರೇ ಕಃ ಕಾಸಾರಃ ।
-- shushka nIre - after the water has dried; kaH kAsAraH - where is the pong/lake?
ಕ್ಷೀಣೇ ವಿತ್ತೇ ಕಃ ಪರಿವಾರಃ
-- kshINe vitte kaH parivAraH - after the wealth has depleted where is the family?
ಜ್ಞಾತೇ ತತ್ತ್ವೇ ಕಃ ಸಂಸಾರಃ ॥ 10 ॥
- jnAtve tatve kaH samsAraH - when the truth is understood, where is the world?

ಮಾ ಕುರು ಧನ-ಜನ-ಯೌವನ-ಗರ್ವಂ
-- mA kuru dhana-jana-yauvana-garvam - do not be proud of your wealth, race, youthfulness
ಹರತಿ ನಿಮೇಷಾತ್ಕಾಲಃ ಸರ್ವಮ್ ।
- harati nimEShAt kAlaH sarvam - "time" will steal everything within no time
ಮಾಯಾಮಯಮಿದಮಖಿಲಂ ಹಿತ್ವಾ
- mAyAmayam idam akhilam hitvA -- disregard them all as effect of mAya (illusion)
ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಪದಂ ತ್ವಂ ಪ್ರವಿಶ ವಿದಿತ್ವಾ ॥ 11 ॥
-- brahmapadam - the state of brahma; tvam pravisha - you enter; viditvA - having perceived
Do not be proud of your wealth, race, youthfulness, "time" will steal everything within no time, disregard them all as effect of mAya (illusion) and having this perceived enter the "state of brahma"!

ದಿನಯಾಮಿನ್ಯೌ ಸಾಯಂ ಪ್ರಾತಃ
-- dina-yAminyau (dina - day; yAmini - night) - through the day and night; sAyam - prAtah - in the evening and in the morning;
ಶಿಶಿರವಸಂತೌ ಪುನರಾಯಾತಃ ।
-- shishira-vasaMtau - in the winter and in the spring; punaH aayAtaH - come again and again.
ಕಾಲಃ ಕ್ರೀಡತಿ ಗಚ್ಛತ್ಯಾಯುಃ
- kAlaH krIDati - "time" plays; gacchati aayuh - life passes
ತದಪಿ ನ ಮುಂಚತ್ಯಾಶಾವಾಯುಃ ॥ 12 ॥
-- tadapi na munchati-aashAvAyuH - even then the air of desire does not abandon
The day and night, evening and morning, winter and spring come and go again and again, time plays with us and lifespan vanishes, even then the balloon of desires does not abandon
ಕಾ ತೇ ಕಾಂತಾ ಧನಗತಚಿಂತಾ
- kA tE kAntA dhanagati chintA - what is your worry related to your dear ones and wealth
ವಾತುಲ ಕಿಂ ತವ ನಾಸ್ತಿ ನಿಯಂತಾ ।
- vAtula kim tava - why / what is this craziness of yours; nAsti niyantA - without restraint
ತ್ರಿಜಗತಿ ಸಜ್ಜನಸಂಗತಿರೇಕಾ
- tijagati sajjana sangatiH ekA - in the three worlds association of the wise one is the only
ಭವತಿ ಭವಾರ್ಣವತರಣೇ ನೌಕಾ ॥ 13 ॥
-- bhavati - become; bhavArNava - the ocean of existence; taraNe nauka - the boat to cross over
Why do you worry about your dear ones and wealth, why is this craziness? is there no restraint for you? In the three worlds, only thing that helps you cross this ocean of existence is the association of the realized/wise ones.
