Hanuman provided evidence to prove that he is indeed the messenger of Sri Rama. After gaining Sita’s confidence and giving the Rama's ring to her, Hanuman asks Sita to tell her something as a sign to indicate to Rama that he has indeed spoken to her. Sita recounts an intimate memory from Chitrakuta that even Lakshmana did not know. Once, she and Rama had wandered in the grove and Rama fell asleep on Sita’s lap. At that time a crow (one of Indra’s wicked sons, in the form of a crow) pecked at Sita. She tries to ward it. Rama wakes up, takes a blade of grass and converts that into an arrow. The crow flies helplessly trying to evade the arrow. Even Indra cannot help, so the crow seeks Rama's shelter for protection. Hanuman gives Sita the confidence that Rama and Lakshmana will come and rescue her. Sita gives a divine jewel to Hanuman and asks him to give it to Rama.
